Armenian Orange Cake

Ingredients

Kuchen

  • 360 g brown sugar
  • 200 g flour
  • 120 g butter
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 organic oranges, zest
  • 0.5 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 sour cream
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • 60 g chopped nuts (walnuts, cashews, almonds)

Orangenschlagsahne

  • 240 ml whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • 1 organic orange, zest

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, flour, butter, salt, orange zest, and spices in a medium bowl.
  2. Stir the dough with a kitchen machine or fork until a homogeneous dough mass is formed.
  3. Pour half of the dough into a buttered cake pan.
  4. Mix baking powder with sour cream and fold it into the remaining dough.
  5. Add the eggs and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the remaining dough into the cake pan and garnish with nuts.
  7. Bake at 170°C for 40-45 minutes in the oven.
  8. Whip the cream until stiff using an electric mixer.
  9. Add sugar, orange zest, and liqueur to the cream.
  10. Let the cream sit in the refrigerator for an hour.
