Instructions
- Get the oven heating to 190°C, convection if available.
- Melt the butter and mix in the sugar (and optional molasses) until smooth.
- Add the egg and mix until very smooth.
- Mix in the salt, vanilla extract, baking soda, flour, and chocolate chips or other mix-ins.
- Chill the dough if needed to make it easier to shape.
Baking
- Divide the dough into six portions and roll each into a ball.
- Flatten the balls evenly on a baking sheet.
- Turn the oven off and the broiler/grill on maximum.
- Place the cookies near the top and let the broiler brown the tops until golden. Be attentive as this step is quick.
- Return the cookies to the oven and bake until done.
- Let the cookies cool before serving.
Notes
Optionally, you can use 1 cup of granulated or brown sugar instead of powdered sugar.
Adjust salt as per personal preference.
