Ingredients

  • 300 g Gruyรจre cheese, finely grated
  • 50 ml milk
  • 1.5 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp Kirsch (cherry brandy)
  • 35 g flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • ground pepper
  • grated nutmeg
  • 1 baguette, cut into 2 cm thick slices
  • sunflower oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat sunflower oil in a cast iron pan to 170ยฐC.
  2. Cut the baguette into slices about 2 cm thick.
  3. Combine finely grated Gruyรจre cheese with milk, eggs, Kirsch, flour, baking powder, ground pepper, and grated nutmeg. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Spread the cheese mixture onto the slices of baguette, shaping it into a half-sphere with a smooth surface. Shape by hand if needed.
  5. Fry the cheese-covered slices with the surface facing down until they turn golden brown.
  6. Flip and fry until the bread side is also golden brown and crisp.
